“In the sacrament of the altar, the Lord meets us, men and women created in God’s image and likeness (cf. Gen 1:27), and becomes our companion along the way. In this sacrament, the Lord truly becomes food for us, to satisfy our hunger for truth and freedom. “
”The sacrament of charity, the Holy Eucharist is the gift that Jesus Christ makes of himself, thus revealing to us God’s infinite love for every man and woman. This wondrous sacrament makes manifest that “greater” love which led him to “lay down his life for his friends” (Jn 15:13). “
“If the Eucharist is truly the source and summit of the Church’s life and mission, it follows that the process of Christian initiation must constantly be directed to the reception of this sacrament. “
“Clearly, full participation in the Eucharist takes place when the faithful approach the altar in person to receive communion. Yet true as this is, care must be taken lest they conclude that the mere fact of their being present in church during the liturgy gives them a right or even an obligation to approach the table of the Eucharist.”
These are just some of the most interesting quotes from the wonderful gift of the Holy Father to us. I encourage you to join us in exploring this apostolic exhortation as a substantial preparation for whenever we bring ourselves to the altar in order to receive the Holy Eucharist. We will be meeting every Sunday at the Chapel of San Lorenzo after the 12:30pm Mass. We will buy food and eat together at the Pastoral Center (3rd Flr) afterwhich we will begin the discussion. First meeting will be on March 30, 2008. However, if you cannot make it but would like to attend, please let me know and we will try to make the necessary adjustment. (Discussion will be in both English & Tagalog)
